Post 1. My autobiagraphy- Who am I

English Language, my torture

As I said in my first class, for me English is a kind of torture. But unfortunately, I feel that it is something I have to manage, because if I don't know, I am at a disadvantage with the rest of my colleagues. Also when you travel it allows you to meet new people. Having English at the University has been a challenge because I haven't practiced it for a long time and I have a very bad base in grammar. And that has affected me a lot. I think it is very good that the university is in charge of providing the tools and basic content to level the English of their students. The level in Chile is very low and only a few have been able to reach a good level in school. I think that the university's English curriculum is good, and it covers all aspects. It allows you to know what is necessary to make yourself understood. Of course, a lot of practice is required. I don't know if I like it very much, but I imagine it's a good way to evaluate. I think I like the older

My favorite food

hello, today I want to tell you about the best food in the universe: French fries. First of all, potatoes are the best ingredient in the universe. Starting with that, everything that comes out of it or what is made with it will be amazing. But the best thing is French fries. The best thing about fries is that they are very easy to make. You have to peel them, or if you like them with skin, just cut them in an elongated shape. Fill a pot with oil and wait until it is very hot to fry them. I like them because they are natural and originate from the south of Chile. Chilotas potatoes are really delicious and have incredible flavors. They are so simple that they can be served with anything. Let's make one thing clear: potatoes are not an accompaniment to anything. They are by themselves. You can put ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, avocado, etc. on them. The best thing is that they are sold everywhere, and of all types! You just have to make sure it is not in a place where t

Post 4. Changes to my study Programme

To study archaeology at the University of Chile, one must enter a common plan that lasts two years. Then in the third year one chooses a specialization. You can choose between: Social Anthropology, Archaeology and Physical Anthropology. In my first study, in 2004, I chose Physical Anthropology. This mention has an approach that mixes anthropology and biology. It is very interesting, and in Chile it was a relatively new career, but with many innocent projections.   At that time, we had branches in medicine. I had a year of anatomy with the medical students. It was really a challenging and unique experience, because I was totally humanistic. I always say that, because really the change between anthropology and medicine is too much. The level of study is very different. You really have to have a big brain to be a doctor. Anyway... I had a hard time but I passed the courses. Currently, Physical Anthropology does not have subjects in medicine and they have adapted the contents to fit th

An Interesting Series

Imagen
Hi, the truth is that I feel very repetitive with my historical type recommendations, I think I will have to look at other things! But this series is too good if you like history and medicine, it's called "Call the Midwife". I started watching it when I became pregnant for the first time. I needed to understand what childbirth was like and what I was going to face. The series provides a historical and social perspective on childbirth in the second half of the 20th century in a marginalized neighborhood in England. Created by Heidi Thomas and based in Memoirs of  Jennifer Worth . The serie has 11 seasons, but on Netflix there are only 5. I hate netflix for this, it always does the same thing. Each chapter shows the case of a woman's childbirth, which is attended by a nurse. They deal with migration, public health and sexually transmitted diseases. It is very interesting to see how the way of understanding childbirth has changed. I recommend watching it, ma

My Best Holiday

Hi, in this oportunity I want to talk about my best holiday. It´s was in Februery 2016. It´s was the best summer in my live, because I knew many amazing places. As mentioned in previous post, I love archeology and I try to know as many archeological sites as possible. In this year, 2016, with my boyfriends, we traveled and toured the Peruvian coast. We arrived to Lima, and then we traveled to the north knowing every village. Near relatively near Lima is Caral. In there, you can see vestiges of South America´s oldest civilitation. It´s a big city. In Chile there are no archaeological sites as impressive as this one. Then, we traveld to Huanchaco, there we visited the archeological site “Chan Chan” is a world heritage site and was built by the Chimú Culture.   Then we visited the ”Complejo El Brujo”. One of the burial   they found there belonged to a female leader, called: Lady of Cao. On his skin you can still see the tattoos she used to have. When I entered the exhibition hal

Country I would like to visit

Imagen
Hi, in this oportunity I want to tell you about a country I would like to visit and why. I dream to visit to Tikal in Guatemala. I tried to go  in 2017,  but thay year I got pregnant and the money was spent on the other things.   As a lover of the past, I want to know as many archaeological as possible. Among them Tikal is one of the most fascinatin sites in America. It is the tallest Mayan pyramid.  Located in Peten zone, surrounded by a dense tropical rainforest and wild animals, for ejample: Jaguars, monkeys and panters. It´s was declared a world heritage site in 1971 for UNESCO. It is very well cared for and managed by the current Mayan communities. I think thats is important because the indigenous people must participe in the care of their heritage. I would like to go there, climb to the top of the pyramid and close my eyes and imagine how the people of the past lived. It would be wonderful to dig there.

Not to be disliked, but the course I have enjoyed the most is English. It has not been the easiest, but I think it is the one in which I have learned the most. When I first entered to University I did not have required English. That's when I realized that my level was very low. This second time my biggest fear was the "mandatory English".  For 10 years I tried to learn on my own by watching series and translating songs. I managed to improve my reading comprehension and a little bit my listening skills. I even took a course that I never finished. But I always thought that my level is quite low. I have enjoyed English because now there are many technological tools and strategies to learn English. The translators and videos with subtitles have been a great help.   Now it is much easier to learn it. Besides, I've lost my fear of making mistakes. Fear is the worst enemy to learn a language. Now, in the course we have learned about grammar and we are forced to speak
